Premier League: Spurs Can Smell Blood on the Wounded Foxes

Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City

The Premier League match between Tottenham and Leicester City is going to proceed on Saturday after a pause to the season in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.

The hosts – who I’ve considered as the dark horses – are in the thick of the title race, placing third with 14 points to level with second seeded reigning champions Manchester City. In contrast, their visitors are the bottom of the table with just a measly point.

Both sides are aiming to get back on the winning track as Spurs suffered a surprising loss to Sporting in their last Champions League match, although they’re much better off than the Foxes –who have yet to win a single game this 2022-23 season.

Read on below for today’s match preview courtesy of SBOTOP.

Talking Points

Antonio Conte might need to mix it up

Heung-Min Son is enduring his driest drought in quite some time since he hasn’t scored in their first eight games this season. The last time he experienced something similar was in the 2018-19 season where he had nine consecutive goalless appearances under then-manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Antonio Conte kept his faith with the Korean winger as he continues to start alongside five-goal man Harry Kane up front.

Son Heung-min remains goalless this season, will he find the net in their next Premier League game?

But instead of the Kane and Son partnership that Spurs fans are accustomed to seeing, Conte might need to give more playing time to Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison since the two of them have combined for three goals and four assists thus far.

Richarlison was the star during their Champions League group stage against Marseille. He notched a brace in just a five-minute span late in the second half to give Tottenham three big points on a night where they were wasteful in front of goal.

Kulusevski remains spectacular since arriving from Juventus. He has been a reliable contributor off the bench during their last two matches.

With the attacking options that they have following a fruitful summer transfer window, now is the time to maximise their depth.

Brendan Rodgers seat is getting warmer

Brendan Rodgers is now the top betting favourite to be next manager sacked following Thomas Tuchel’s departure at Stamford Bridge, and it’s not all his fault.

In a summer in which numerous Premier League clubs splashed the cash to strengthen their respective rosters, Leicester did the complete opposite by selling their key players while acquiring a couple of unproven players In return.

The sales of Kasper Schmeichel and Wesley Fofana proved to be costly, to say the least. As a result, the Foxes have been inept at the backline, surrendering 16 goals in their first six league games – their worst defencive start in nearly four decades.

Leicester City aren’t that great up front either. James Maddison leads their attacking corps with two goals and one assist, while Patson Daka, Kelechi Iheanacho, Harvey Barnes, Timothy Castagne, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have all scored one apiece.

History

Tottenham own a three-game winning streak over Leicester City. Spurs have never won four consecutive league games against the Foxes before and they can do it for the first time this Saturday.

Leicester City have conceded at least three goals in each of those three defeats. Since returning to the English top-flight in 2014, they’ve surrendered 63 goals total against Tottenham.

The last time that Leicester City failed to win in any of their first seven Premier League matches in a top-flight campaign was in 1983-84 where they eventually finished at 15th place.

Overall, Spurs have won seven of their last nine Premier League games against the Foxes (L2).  They’ve also won each of their last six home league games – which is the longest such run at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Prior to that, Tottenham had a longer home winning streak between November 2016 and May 2017 when they were still playing at White Hart Lane (W14).

Betting Tip

The Premier League 2022 odds are backing Tottenham to win this contest easily. The Spurs are installed at 1.48, while Leicester City are pegged at 6.40 and a draw is at 4.20 in the 1X2 market.

This game is for Tottenham’s to lose since they have all the positive Premier League 2022 results compared to Leicester City. In fact, their defeat to Sporting on Tuesday should serve as their wake-up call.

Over 2.75 @ 1.92 is another bet to think about given the recent trend between these two sides, but it will all depend on how many goals the hosts score.
