Borussia Monchengladbach vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Two teams vying for Champions League spots are set to go head-to-head this weekend as Borussia Monchengladbach host Eintracht Frankfurt at Borussia Park.
Eintracht Frankfurt are in the Champions League but they’re not doing great, especially following their defeat against Tottenham. However, they’re already planning to make it back there next season.
Meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach haven’t been in any European competitions since 2019-20 and they’re itching to return soon.
Die Adler are currently fifth at the Bundesliga standings with 17 points, which is only one point ahead of the sixth-seeded Die Fohlen who have 16.
This is likely to be a tight encounter according to the pre-match SBOTOP betting odds, as these two sides are going to bring it come Saturday night.
Talking Points
Marcus Thuram rediscovering his form
Perhaps I should’ve added Daniel Farke in this top Bundesliga managers list since he’s getting the best out of Marcus Thuram.
The Frenchman always had the potential to be one of the league’s top forwards. However, injuries and fitness issues have halted his progress over the past few years.
Last season under Adi Hutter, Thuram was not placed at his best position so he struggled for goals and consistent minutes. He only scored three times and it took him until February to open his account.
When Daniel Farke was appointed as their new head coach last summer, the former Norwich gaffer challenged Thuram to be in the best shape of his life, and it has been paying dividends.
Marcus Thuram currently leads the team in scoring with seven goals in 10 matches, which is good for second in the ongoing Bundesliga Golden Boot race.
His contract is expiring soon, so there’s added motivation for the son of French World Cup winner Lilian Thuram. As long as he keeps this up, Marcus should earn a big new contract soon – whether it’s from Borussia Monchengladbach or from other clubs.
Several media outlets claim that Inter Milan, Juventus, and Bayern Munich are reportedly keeping tabs on the 25-year-old striker.
Rafael Santos Borre keen to get the ball rolling
Rafael Santos Borre’s form has dropped off, although Eintracht Frankfurt are doing well despite that. Nonetheless, they’re going to need him to find his shooting boots soon if they are to make noise again this term.
He is, after all, their top scorer last season with 11 goals across all competitions. However, 13 games in, and he has only notched one goal and one assist.
The arrival of Randal Kolo Muani is one of the main reasons why Borre has slipped down the pecking order. The Frenchman has tallied three goals and five assists so far.
There were rumours of him leaving in January amid reported interest from La Liga and Serie A clubs, but Die Adler insist that they’re keeping him in order to maintain their attacking depth.
Borre, 27, arrived on a free transfer from River Plate during the summer of 2021 and is still under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2025.
History
Borussia Monchengladbach have only lost one of their last eight Bundesliga matches against Eintracht Frankfurt (W4, D3).
The said loss happened in their first meeting last season as Die Adler defeated Die Fohlen at their home pitch 3-2, where Rafael Santos Borre, Jesper Lindstrom, Daichi Kamada, Florian Neuhaus, and Remy Bensebaini all found the back of the net.
Die Fohlen have scored in all of those eight matches (21 goals total) which is their second-longest scoring streak in this particular fixture – only a game behind a run between 1967 and 1971 (9 games).
Furthermore, Borussia Monchengladbach have yet to lose a Saturday game this season after defeating RB Leipzig and drawing with Schalke and Bayern Munich.
Die Adler picked up more points away to Die Fohlen more than any other side in their German top-flight history (53). They’ve also scored the second-most away league goals versus Borussia Monchengladbach (67), which is only one behind against VfB Stuttgart (68).
Betting Tip
The Bundesliga 2022 odds backed the hosts to win as Borussia Monchengladbach are installed at 2.28, but Eintracht Frankfurt aren’t far off at 2.83 and a draw is priced at 3.60 in the 1×2 market.
With both sides evenly matched, the result for this match is a tough call. However, we expect to see several Bundesliga 2022 highlights from this one.
We’re inclined to recommend going for Total Goal 2-3 @ 2.08 since a clean sheet is unlikely. We also won’t be surprised if points are going to be shared.
