With Serie A leaders Napoli playing on Sunday, Inter has the chance to go top, for at least a day, when they go to Cagliari hunting for three more points.
Luciano Spalletti’s team are still unbeaten with ten wins and three draws, and are hot on the trail of Napoli. They are still available at betting odds of 15.00 to win the title in what, after 13 league football games, looks likely to be a four horse race.
WEEK 14 SATURDAY:
Bologna vs Sampdoria
Duvan Zapata scored his fifth of the season in Sampdoria’s stunning victory over Juventus last week which leaves them nine points off the lead in sixth place. Tenth-placed Bologna ended a four-match losing run with a win in Verona and are at 2.63 to grab another three points, with Sampdoria at 2.64.
WEEK 14 SUNDAY:
Chievo vs SPAL
It’s a first top flight meeting for SPAL against Chievo and the visitors are making a decent fist of their debut season, although they sit precariously in 17th on ten points. They are unbeaten in three though, as is Chievo. If you think both runs will continue then you can get 3.30 on the draw.
Sassuolo vs Hellas Verona
After winning away against bottom club Benevento last week, Sassuolo will be looking for a repeat against second bottom Hellas to hopefully lift them further away from the drop zone. The visitors have lost the last five and are already in big trouble.
Cagliari vs Inter Milan
Mauro Icardi’s 13 goals have fired Inter so close to the summit, with a ready supply from winger Ivan Perisic keeping him happy. The hosts are in goods spirits though, with three wins from the last four games lifting them up to 13th with Brazilian star Joao Pedro in good form. An Inter win takes them top and that’s some incentive.
Genoa vs AS Roma
Roma sit in fourth place but with a game in hand and have the tightest defence in the league, conceding just eight goals. Five points off the top they can stay in the chase with a win against Genoa. The hosts ended a run of three defeats last week with victory over Crotone but remain in the drop zone on nine points.
Udinese vs Napoli
An Inter win earlier in the weekend will raise the stakes in Napoli’s trip to Udines, as the unbeaten leaders go in search of another big victory. Dries Mertens has been in outstanding form with ten goals and will fancy his chances against the home defence which have conceded 23 already.
AC Milan vs Torino
Seventh plays eighth in Milan and both are in patchy form. The hosts haven’t won in their last four home games but then Torino haven’t won in their last four away games so something has to give, or does it? A draw here is at 3.60.
WEEK 14 MONDAY:
Lazio vs Fiorentina
Serie A’s hottest striker, Ciro Immobile, is still recovering from Italy’s failure to reach the World Cup but with 15 goals so far, he has been in spectacular form. Following international disappointment with a defeat in the Rome derby has left Immobile in need of a boost. Ninth-placed Fiorentina are without a win in three and could oblige.
Juventus vs Crotone
It’s been a funny old week for the Bianconeri as they followed a disappointing defeat to Sampdoria with a frustrating stalemate against Barcelona in the Champions League. Twelve-goal Paulo Dybala should lead the Old Lady to a big win against Crotone to lift their spirits. The visitors have won two in three but I suspect that will soon be two in four!
WEEK 14 TUESDAY:
Atalanta vs Benevento
Could this be the week for Benevento? They’ve lost 13 from 13 but have come close recently, being on the wrong side of three 2-1 results, one against Juventus. Atalanta have dropped to 12th without a win in four matches. There’s always hope!
