5 reasons you need to watch the Belgian GP

Lewis Hamilton, Mav Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo

The big race is what we are all waiting for, but what makes the event exciting are the side bar stories that add colour to an already electrifying event. Do you want to know more?

1. Don’t fret, Belgian fans. Even if there is no official driver carrying the flag of Belgium, it helps to know that one of the promising upstarts on the grid is Max Verstappen. While he chose to represent Netherlands, the young Verstappen is actually born in the Belgian town of Hasselt, to a Belgian mother!

2. Sebastian Vettel fans definitely have reason to celebrate, since the German multi-titled driver is set for another historic milestone. Vettel is poised to become the man with the most points in F1 history. He just equalized with Fernando Alonso in the last race, and the only way he’d be denied that honour is if Alonso fared better than him. Now, that would be a total surprise too, considering Alonso’s form this year. But do not count the Spaniard out just yet!

3. And don’t forget, Vettel is still the only driver amongst those racing this season to have won more than once at Spa, joining the best of them all – Kimi Räikkönen, who has won here four times, versus Vettel’s two. Felipe Massa, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Daniel Ricciardo are all one-time winners, and they’d like to share the same plateau with Vettel.

4. Among today’s current active drivers, only Lewis Hamilton made pole position at the Spa more than once. Wow, talk about dominating the circuit! But can he do it again this time around? In history, only three drivers had the most pole position here: Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. They all made pole four times.

5. Finally, all eyes are on defending titlist Daniel Ricciardo, winner of the 2014 staging of the Belgian Grand Prix, trailed by Nico Rosberg and Valtteri Bottas. Will this staging feature a similar podium line up?
