Premier League Arsenal vs Liverpool: Who’s Going to Blink First?

Arsenal vs Liverpool

Premier League, Arsenal vs Liverpool is always one of the highlights of the Premier League season, and it looks better than ever this time around.

The Saturday teatime fixture brings two teams together packed with quality and bang in form as things are certainly looking up in North London and Merseyside.

Liverpool’s rise under Jurgen Klopp seemed to be coinciding with a period of stagnancy at the end of Arsene Wenger’s reign at Arsenal, which was sad to see. But the arrival of Unai Emery at the Emirates has ushered in a new dawn, and the Gunners are right back in the hunt for a top-four place and silverware.

After losing their opening two fixtures, Arsenal won seven on the trot before sharing the points in an exciting draw with Crystal Palace, while Liverpool has become firmly established as the big rivals to champions Manchester City for the control of SBOBET Premier League 2018.

Eight wins and two draws, in superb style, have lifted Jurgen Klopp’s Reds to the summit, alongside the Sky Blues with whom they played out an entertaining draw last month. But with Arsenal just four points behind in fourth place, Liverpool can’t afford to relax.

Talking points

Unai has the look of Arsene’s successor

After one man has re-invented your club, not to mention the Premier League, and been custodian for 22 seasons, how do you replace him? Arsene Wenger played a big part in the transformation of English football, from blood and thunder to artistry and guile. His team of Invincibles which went a whole season undefeated was arguably the best we’ve seen in the UK, but all good things come to an end. And when Unai Emery arrived at the Emirates for his seventh appointment, a few eyebrows were raised.

But Emery is a winner, as three consecutive Europa titles with Sevilla will testify, and he has already taken his current team on an impressive winning run.

Big defender Sokratis was probably, in many ways, the most significant signing of the summer for Arsenal. The Greece international has been Borussia Dortmund’s best defender in recent seasons and he’s settled in well at the Emirates, following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan from the Signal Iduna Park to North London. With Laurent Koscielny missing the start of the season with an Achilles injury, Emery knew he needed to shore up the back and Sokratis was the man for the job. He has a no-nonsense approach to defending not seen since the days of Tony Adams.

Rob Holding is disappointed ending their winning streak but hopes to recover in Premier League Arsenal vs Liverpool

Arsenal seem to have more steel at the back and a few more options. Rob Holding is challenging for the place, partnering Shkodran Mustafi in the draw with the Eagles.

Up front, Mesut Ozil has been playing more like his old self, and Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have built up a good understanding. With seven and four goals respectively, they are becoming a potent threat.

Liverpool won’t sit back

It isn’t in Jurgen Klopp, or his team’s, nature to be dominated by anyone. The attacking force which excited Premier League fans last season is at it again.

Can Daniel Sturridge display another great performance in Premier League Arsenal vs Liverpool?
Daniel Sturridge celebrates after scoring late goal against Chelsea

Mo Salah and Sadio Mane have scored 11 between them, Mane edging it with six to the Egyptian’s five. And having seemingly disappeared last season while Salah, Roberto Firminho and Mane dominated the headlines, striker Daniel Sturridge seems to have rediscovered his mojo: he recently scored a spectacular equaliser against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Wing-backs Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson are exciting young talents, defending with assurance and a constant threat down either flank. There will be a constant supply for the Red strikers that’s for sure, and a serious test of Arsenal’s resistance.

History

Liverpool’s two draws came against top-six rivals, as did Arsenal’s early season defeats, so both teams have a small something to prove.

The head-to-head Arsenal vs Liverpool results couldn’t be a lot closer, with 18 wins for the Gunners to Liverpool’s 19 and there have been 19 draws.

A win for Emery’s team will give those statistics a lovely symmetrical look, but not one Klopp wants to see.

Betting Tip

??
Arsenal vs Liverpool Draw 1×2 @ 3.40

The Arsenal vs Liverpool odds tell us we’re in for a cracking game with Liverpool favourites, though not odds-on at 2.06. Meanwhile, both Arsenal and the draw are available at 3.40.

But, with home advantage to Arsenal, I can’t split the two.

And for an alternative bet, over 3.00 goals is at 1.80 with under 2.50 at 2.11.
