Fantastic Gunners strike Gold for happy Arsene

Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea

Aaron Ramsey scored a dramatic late winner, in a brilliant team display, to win the FA Cup for Arsenal, and give the amazing Arsene Wenger yet another domestic cup honour.

Most sports betting pundits tipped a win for Antonio Conte’s league winners, but Wenger picked up his seventh FA Cup, richly deserved by him and his talented team. Chelsea, the betting websites clear favourites, looked heavy legged for the first half hour and Arsenal took full advantage.

Flagship football games can sometimes disappoint but this one did anything but.

The Gunners were excellent in the first half, pressing high and playing with the skill and endeavour their fans have been aching to see all season. Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil were in scintillating form and when Sanchez fired home on four minutes the red half of Wembley went wild. There was an agonising wait for the players to celebrate as the flag went up, but the offside Ramsey wasn’t interfering with play, although Sanchez may have got a way with a hand ball in the build up. But the goal was given…1-0 Arsenal.

Danny Welbeck headed against a post and Chelsea’s Gary Cahill made two goal-line clearances and the Arsenal players were disappointed not to be at least three goals up at the break.

Chelsea came out for the second half with more purpose with Pedro creating opportunities for himself and team-mates, but a big moment came on 68 minutes when Victor Moses shamefully took a dive in the penalty box to earn his second yellow and an early bath. But as Arsenal seemed to be running the clock down with ease, Diego Costa scored a deflected equaliser to set up a grandstand finish.

And there it was. Just a minute later Ramsey was the man on the spot to head Olivier Giroud’s sublime cross for the breathtaking winner.

There was still time for Mesut Ozil to hit a post, but it was always going to be Arsenal’s day and Arsene’s triumph.
