Regardless of their positions though, this is now fast becoming a battle which can get personal.
Two sides bankrolled by generous benefactors who have been able to surpass the traditional elite with vast spending in the quest for sustained dominance.
Maybe now, after all this time, a more lasting enmity is being formed on the pitch too.
