We’re just a little over a month off from the start of the Chinese Super League (CSL) and the live betting battle for the top is already heating up.
Two Guangzhou-based clubs – the Guangzhou Evergrande and Guangzhou R&F – are dominating the league, and it looks like sports betting fans are in for another treat as the two take the field in Week 6 to establish their leads even more.
WEEK 6 FRIDAY:
Beijing Guoan vs Tianjin Quanjian
It has been a terrific start for new boys Tianjin Quanjian as they remain undefeated after their opening loss to the Blue Lions last month, and the spending spree they made to get the likes of Axel Witsel and Alexandre Pato is already paying dividends. Though, they surely won’t have it easy against the Imperial Guards who are just difficult to beat at home, especially with striker Burak Yilmaz playing superbly once again.
Jiangsu Suning vs Guangzhou R&F
Still winless in five, last year’s runners-up, Jiangsu Suning, are certainly in trouble. It’s still too early to say if Choi Yong-Soo’s decision to keep the squad intact without significant improvements is the right move, but they might need to wait a little longer for their first win as they’ll be facing Guangzhou R&F who have been on a tear so far behind Eran Zahavi.
If you’re punting, the Blue Lions at Asian Handicap +0.25 @ 1.97 sounds like a steal.
Guangzhou Evergrande vs Liaoning Whowin
Last year’s record champions haven’t yet made a string of consecutive wins in the tournament, but that might change now with Liaoning Whowin looking more vulnerable than ever. Although the Northeast Tigers have attacking threats with China striker Yang Xu and Australian duo Robbie Kruse and James Holland, their defence leaves much to be desired. With that said, Evergrande’s Ricardo Goulart should be able to find the back of the net again and lead his team to breeze through an Asian Handicap -2.00 @ 1.76.
Shanghai SIPG vs Hebei CFFC
These two teams are ultra talented, and they will undoubtedly pose a threat in the title race. Hebei will have their hopes up in this game as they eye to neutralise Shanghai SIPG’s Hulk and Oscar with their much-improved defence, but the home side will be bolstered playing at Shanghai Stadium where they haven’t lost for almost ten months now.
WEEK 6 SATURDAY:
Tianjin Teda vs Yanbian Funde
After minimal investment during the transfer window, it’s not surprising at all to see Yanbian Funde at the bottom three – the same place where they were early last year. Tianjin Teda are also struggling despite bringing in former Chelsea man John Obi Mikel and Brown Ideye, though the quality they have should be enough to pile more misery on the visiting outfit.
Guizhou Zhicheng vs Shanghai Shenhua
With only two wins to boast, Shenhua might be thinking too far ahead with their aspirations of improving their fourth-place finish last year. There are still a lot of questions about their form, and it doesn’t help that their highly-priced signing Carlos Tevez is in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
Newcomers Guizhou Zhicheng are the underdogs in this one, but with their opponents conceding eight goals in the last three, it’s not impossible for Nikica Jelavic and Fan Yunlong to score again and bag a home win with Asian Handicap +0.50 @ 1.72.
WEEK 6 SUNDAY:
Changchun Yatai vs Henan Jianye
After having already conceded 12 goals, it’s no wonder why Changchun Yatai are at the bottom of the standings and without a win. Henan Jianye are also winless, but at least they are way better defensively. Not to mention that they have Senegalese young gun Christian Bassogog who can explode anytime now.
Shandong Luneng vs Chongqing Lifan
The biggest surprises of the year are second-placed Shandong Luneng who, just last season, narrowly avoided relegation. It remains to be seen if they can keep up this form as the pressure mounts, but with Papiss Cisse continuing to impress, they should be able to repulse a Chongqing Lifan team they have dominated in recent years.
