But then, as a 1-1 draw seemed the likely result, it was that man Lacazette again, finishing clinically after Kylian Mbappe put him through with a superb through ball. Didier Deschamps gave Lacazette the chance of his standing ovation from the visiting fans, taking him off to be replaced by Antoine Griezmann.
But there was still time for Stindl to steal in and snatch a draw at the death. No matter how well you play, you can never write off Germany.
