Tottenham Hotspur vs Inter Milan
Spurs vs Inter Milan is our Sunday treat as Antonio Conte takes his Inter Milan to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to take on Spurs.
Last year’s International Champions Cup winners will be delighted to be back home as they put the final touches to their Premier League preparations in a final ICC match.
Meanwhile it’s a chance for the former Chelsea boss to rekindle memories of his successful period in the English league.
It’s the first ICC game to be played at Spurs’ magnificent new stadium and it’s sure to draw a big crowd. Both teams are well set up with experienced coaches and ambitions to progress in their respective leagues; and so SBOBET tips both Spurs and Inter Milan to keep hold of their top four places in the Premier League and Serie A.
Talking Points
Poch happy with Spurs progress
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is at a club with a rather longer term view than Conte’s old employers. The Argentine is about to embark on his sixth season at the North London club and is yet to win a trophy. But Spurs’ owners and fans have been happy with the progress he has made.
Equally Poch is content with his pre-season preparations. Spurs got off to a superb start by beating Juventus, thanks to a spectacular winner from Harry Kane who scored from the halfway line. That goal is undoubtedly one of the International Champions Cup 2019 highlights to look out for.
Spurs were then unlucky to lose to a late goal in a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United after Lucas Moura had climbed off the bench to draw the Whites level. And Harry Winks has caught the eye with some assured performances in the midfield. Poch has been pleased by his team’s efforts in Asia, saying: “The tour was fantastic; we’ve enjoyed it a lot… It’s important that the collective performance was good. Some need to improve more, some need to get experience but overall it’s been a very positive experience against Juventus in Singapore and Manchester United in Shanghai.”
While Pochettino is still trying to supplement his squad there is doubt over the future of Christian Eriksen who has said he is ready to leave Spurs. But the Dane is still there and he could feature again in this home tie.
Hard to beat Inter in search for goals
Conte’s Inter has proved difficult to beat in its three pre-season games, but goals have been hard to come by. They drew 1-1 with the Bianconeri after losing 1-0 to Manchester United in the ICC, and then had a 1-1 draw with Paris St Germain, thanks to a late equaliser from Samuele Longo.
An own goal courtesy of Matthijs de Ligt gave Inter the draw with Juventus so it’s been a lean time for Conte’s strikers. But it’s not for the want of trying and they have been making an increasing number of good chances, since having eight shots and just one on target against Manchester United. They registered 16 and three against Juventus and 12, with five on target against PSG.
The creative work comes from Ivan Perisic and Danilo D’Ambrosio, but they need a striker to convert the chances. There is little prospect of striker Mauro Icardi featuring, he is mulling over a move to Roma which could see Edin Dzeko coming the other way.
But Conte has little to worry about at the back. Diego Godin has signed for Inter after nine successful years at Atletico Madrid, previously turning down Manchester United, and says he has been impressed by the club’s ambition. He said: “’I can say that no club convinced me how Inter managed to. They came alive first and decidedly with more conviction than other clubs. They showed me the project: it’s ambitious, like me.”
History
Spurs and Inter have had some good tussles, with a decider in each of the last six games, each side winning three.
In the last meeting Eriksen climbed off the bench to score a late winner which kept Spurs Champions League hopes alive and culminated in the 2019 final defeat to Liverpool.
A decent guide for our Spurs vs Inter Milan betting tips is that Spurs is unbeaten at home to Inter in four matches.
Betting Tip
Tottenham Hotspur vs Inter Milan | Draw 1X2 @ 3.50 | |
August 4, 10:06 (GMT+8) |
Home advantage means Spurs are comfortable favourites at odds of 1.82 with Inter Milan at 4.10, and I think Spurs will extend their home run against the Italians; but I’m happy to back the draw.
Inter have found it hard to score but are making chances and they are difficult to break down. We’re in for a good contest and the most likely score line is 1-1 at odds of 6.60.
And then for a more cautious bet at odds of 1.89, 2-3 goals looks likely.
