International Champions Cup: Manchester United vs Inter Milan

Manchester United vs Inter Milan

Two of Europe’s biggest sides meet at the Singapore National Stadium on Saturday in the next big International Champions Cup clash; and there is plenty of intrigue in this one!

Manchester United and Inter Milan are currently locked in negotiations, with the Red Devils striker Romelu Lukaku at the centre of a big money tug of war. So the big Belgian is unlikely to feature in this meeting, though he’s the centre of the latest ICC 2019 news, certainly in both England and Italy.

Talking Points

Is Lukaku Milan Bound?

Old Trafford is dominating much of the Premier League transfer gossip, and while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made a couple of promising signings, and is reported to be pursuing Leicester City defender Harry Maguire, there is rather more talk around who may be leaving the Theatre of Dreams.

Romelu Lukaku was one of three players heavily criticised at the end of Manchester United’s dreadful 2019 Premier League finish. OGS has been on record saying that Paul Pogba is still a part of his plans, and the Red Devils haven’t given up hope of goalkeeper David de Gea signing an extended contract and returning to form.

But as far as Lukaku is concerned, the writing appears to be on the wall. He wasn’t in Manchester United’s line-up against Leeds United earlier this week and United seem to be expecting a new offer of around £60m plus add-ons for their forward. Last week, the Red Devils told the Milan giants they wanted to recoup the £79m they paid to Everton for Lukaku two seasons ago, so there is still some way to go.

Inter’s revolving door

While Lukaku may be on the way in, the Nerazzurri seem likely to be saying goodbye to a couple of big names at the same time. Milan has been the scene of a soap opera starring Inter’s Argentine striker Mauro Icardi, who was stripped of the captaincy of the Nerazzurri last February, and he has not joined the team for this tour.

The former skipper has been linked with both Juventus and Napoli, and it looks like his six-year stay in Milan could be about to end after the Serie A club released a statement saying that they had come to an arrangement with the player.

New head coach Antonio Conte will start the season without combative midfielder

Radja Nainggolan who also looks like he could be on the way out of the San Siro.

Ivan Perisic’s playmaking skills will be vital for Inter against Manchester United in International Champions Cup
Ivan Perisic started his pre-season campaign with an assist to Marcelo Brozovic in their victory against FC Lugano

Inter is one of four Serie A sides in this year’s International Champions Cup, along with Milan, Juventus and Fiorentina, and it will give Conte the opportunity to run the rule over his squad. They started off their pre-season campaign with a 1-2 win away to FC Lugano thanks to goals from Marcelo Brozovic and Stefano Sensi who both scored with spectacular strikes. Ivan Perisic set up Brozovic’s effort and is certain to be a creative force again in the coming season.

Red Devils looking to the future

55,000 fans watched Manchester United thrash old enemies Leeds United at the Optus Stadium earlier this week as new signing Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka made an appearance. James was denied his first goal for the Red Devils when his effort hit the woodwork, but goals from Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Antony Martial and Phil Jones made it a comfortable 4-0 win for the Red Devils.

Jones’ place at Old Trafford may come under pressure should Maguire arrive before the Premier League season starts, but the news may be better for Greenwood after his head coach said he may be ready to start the campaign against Chelsea.

History

Our Asian Handicap SBOBET stats pages tell a story of an edge for the Red Devils in this fixture in recent years. United have won two games to Inters one of the four clashes since 2007, the latest being a 5-3 win for the Manchester side in the 2014 ICC Cup. In fact, Inter is without a win in three against their opponents.

United finished last season in awful form, earning just two points from their last four games, including a draw against Huddersfield and a defeat to Cardiff City, both of whom were already relegated!

Inter finished rather better, winning two of the last three, to finish in fourth and, crucially, ahead of their Milan rivals.

Betting Tip

??
Manchester United vs Inter Milan Over 2.50 goals @1.80
July 20, 19:30 (GMT+8)

But the very latest Manchester United vs Inter Milan betting odds have the Red Devils as favourites, at odds of 2.19, with Inter at 3.15 and the draw at 3.30. Inter’s transfer distractions and the early showing of United’s young stars suggest this could be a game Ole’s boys could do well in.

Either way, I’m going to back an entertaining match with a few goals, and both sides on the score sheet.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
