Uruguay 1-4 Brazil
Football betting in South America can become a headache of its own as all of the teams in this competitive region have the ability to win football games. They have a unique footballing culture that they’re proud of, allowing them to breed some of the world’s best footballers.
This game was a testament to how great the continent is in breeding top players. Estadio Centenario hosted Europe players such as Neymar, Edinson Cavani, Diego Godin, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino for 90 minutes. It’s not every day that you see such great players on the same pitch.
We can say that the game was a tale of two halves. Uruguay were without their talisman in Luis Suarez, but the hosts were able to score first blood. A questionable chest down from Marcelo and a head-scratching save from Alisson rewarded Cavani with a penalty. The PSG player didn’t let this pass and put his team in front after nine minutes.
The intense battle between the two nations continued, with Uruguay making the bulk of the attacks. However, a long strike from Paulinho in the 19th minute evened the score by half time.
The Brazilians were able to turn the game around come the second half. Neymar almost scored a free-kick goal if it wasn’t for Martin Silva’s save. The visitors were able to pull away on 52 minutes after Silva’s top save on Firminho’s head-on shot sent the ball to Paulinho’s feet for his second goal.
Neymar was soon able to convert his on-pitch dominance to a goal after making a cheeky chip over the battered Uruguay keeper in the 74th minute. Paulinho then completed his hat-trick in the game’s dying minutes.
Cavani could have made the final score a lot closer if he converted his free kick attempts, but the obvious absence of Suarez hurt the hosts’ chances of winning the game. With this result, Brazil’s ticket to Russia is all but secured.
