Liverpool are on course to win their second Premier League title (first under Arne Slot) because they built a big lead in the English top-flight standings. However, they might not be able to defend it next season since they’re in danger of losing some of their star players.
Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold – three pillars of the current Reds – will likely hit free agency after this 2024-25 campaign since Liverpool have yet to give them new contract extensions.
Elsewhere, Arsenal received a positive update about one of their injured stars, providing them a slight boost in the Premier League 2025 odds. But, despite this, they still have a long way to go to catch up to Liverpool. Nottingham Forest also plan to strengthen their ranks this summer if recent reports are to be believed.
Before we return to club football, here are some of the notable Premier League 2025 updates, courtesy of SBOTOP.
No extensions yet for Liverpool star trio
Trent Alexander-Arnold might be the first to go between him, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk, as he is reportedly edging towards a sensational switch to Real Madrid. According to sources in Spain, the 26-year-old right-back will sign a lucrative five-year contract to leave his boyhood club after agreeing to personal terms with Los Blancos.
Alexander-Arnold has made 349 appearances for Liverpool since making his debut in 2016. Liverpool rejected Real Madrid’s bid on the Englishman last December, but with no new deal in place, they might lose Alexander-Arnold for free this offseason. If Liverpool confirm that Alexander-Arnold will join the La Liga giants, they will likely have Conor Bradley as his ready-made replacement.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s situations remain unsolved for the Reds, with the latter admitting he has “no idea” about their futures with the club. Salah and van Dijk, unlike Alexander-Arnold, are in their 30s – a key reason Liverpool are hesitant to give them new deals.
Salah is one of the frontrunners in the Golden Boot race this season with 27 league goals and 17 assists, while van Dijk has been the team captain and marshal at the back. If they will hit the market this summer, there’s no doubt several suitors will line up for their signatures.
Arsenal get massive injury boost

Injuries have hit Arsenal’s frontline hard due to the injuries of Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus. However, one of them could return to the pitch ahead of schedule.
Saka, who has missed the last three months due to a serious hamstring issue, could play for the Gunners soon. He could feature against Fulham in their first match after the March international break, but that is wishful thinking for manager Mikel Arteta.
Reports indicate that Saka’s return might be against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals since they need him to be there more than anything. The 23-year-old winger will link up with Ben White and Martin Odegaard on the right side of the pitch for the first time since November.
Meanwhile, Myles Lewis-Skelly left a lasting impression on Thomas Tuchel during the recently concluded international break, helping England win their qualifying games against Albania (2-0) and Latvia (3-0). The 18-year-old full-back became the youngest player in history to score on his senior England debut against Albania last week. Fellow Gunner Declan Rice also did well for himself during his latest international duty with the Three Lions.
Centre-back Riccardo Calafiori hurt his knee while playing for Italy, and fellow defender Jurrien Timber pulled out of the Dutch camp due to an illness.
Nottingham Forest aim to make a big splash this summer
Nottingham Forest have been looking for reinforcements in the final third. With Chris Wood, 33, not getting any younger, Forest aim to bring in a younger and capable striker this offseason.
According to reports, team owner Evangelos Marinakis is prepared to make a big splash in the summer transfer window if Nottingham Forest qualify for the Champions League. Victor Osimhen, 26, is a player they have an eye on given his extensive CV and because he is entering his prime years.
Osimhen was loaned to Galatasaray (by Napoli) this season and has produced 20 goals and four assists. The Nigerian international is a big reason Galatasaray is at the top of the Super Lig table.
Napoli have reportedly placed a £63 million price tag on Osimhen, and it remains to be seen whether Nottingham Forest can meet the demands for his John Hancock.
