Leeds United are eager to stretch their Premier League winning streak to three games when they’ll host Newcastle United at Elland Road this weekend.

Doing so would surely help the Whites’ campaign for this season, since a victory here can help them go to as high as the 11^th place – which is four notches above their current standing at 22 points.

The month of January has been decent so far for Marcelo Bielsa’s men, but the same can’t be said for Newcastle United – who are still languishing at the bottom half.

The Magpies are 10 points behind their hosts, which is good for second to the last, although they were able to pick up points in their previous two games.

Momentum building for Leeds United

After winning just three of their first 18 league matches this season, Leeds United have won each of their last two and they’re definitely vying for their third straight.

Last week, Leeds had to face West Ham twice and they’ve split their two meetings. The Hammers won booted out the Whites in the third round of the FA Cup, but the latter got their sweet revenge few days later.

Jack Harrison was the hero for Leeds United in the last time out as he scored his first hat-trick for the club, with the biggest goal coming in at the 60^th minute where he converted a diagonal ball from Raphinha.

It was a morale-boosting result for Marcelo Bielsa’s side since they’ve been hit by the injury bug all season, and things are going to get better for the Yorkshire club.

The reason why It’s so is because Marcelo Bielsa shared his optimism about a Patrick Bamford return for as soon as this weekend.

Bamford has missed the Whites’ last six games due to a hamstring injury and his goalscoring output has been sorely missed by the squad. 

The Englishman may have tallied only two goals and two assists in five league games so far this term, but his return can’t come soon enough for a Leeds group who are in dire need of more firepower. 

Relegation threat continue to loom large for Newcastle United

Newcastle have only one league win under their belts. And with 18 matchdays remaining, there’s growing pressure of generating positive Premier League 2022 results.

Newcastle have been making moves in the transfer window so far, and their hopeful that their newest additions can help them save their campaign.

Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood will certainly provide additional ammunition for Eddie Howe, although they might need some time to get fully acclimated with their new club.

For now, they’ll continue to rely on Allan Saint-Maximin, who remains their biggest attacking threat. He’s had a great start to 2022 individual-wise as he has scored two goals in their last two games.

Leeds United have had Newcastle United’s number lately as they’ve gained seven points in their last three encounters (W2, D1), which is two more than they had in their previous nine against them in the Premier League (W1, D2, L6).

The Whites are on the verge of kicking off 2022 on a three-game winning streak, which would be the first time since 1973 when the late Don Revie was at the coaching helm.

Newcastle United, though, have yet to lose in consecutive league games at Elland Road since a stretch of three losses between 1970 and 1972.
