Six football games into the Chinese Super League and who would’ve thought that a different Guangzhou team will be at the top?
Long trailing the shadow of the more successful Evergrande outfit, Guangzhou R&F surprised football betting with their terrific start to the season; and they are continuously proving that it’s no fluke as they overcome betting odds to defeat last year’s runners-up and stay in control.
Beijing Guoan 1-1 Tianjin Quanjian
Beijing dominated the possession and were terrific creating scoring opportunities from set-pieces, but they needed a late equaliser from Li Lei to get a share of the spoils. Newcomers Tianjin Quanjian, meanwhile, remain undefeated in five as China International Sun Ke broke the deadlock to put them up before the break.
Jiangsu Suning 1-2 Guangzhou R&F
The Blue Lions battled back from a goal down to stay unbeaten in the tournament. Jiangsu Suning had few opportunities in the first half, though they were able to open the scoring through Alex Teixeira who tapped the ball in from a Cao Haiqing pass on 35 minutes. That lead, however, lasted for just half an hour as Eran Zahavi went berserk again for a second-half double – both scored from the top of the box.
Guangzhou Evergrande 2-1 Liaoning Whowin
It was a thrilling last 20 minutes of action at Tianhe Stadium as the crowd saw three goals scored in that span. Ricardo Goulart sealed the deal for the defending champions as he brilliantly converted a penalty on 81 minutes, all after Gao Lin cancelled out Assani Lukimya’s spot kick with a beautiful header 16 minutes before the death of time.
Shanghai SIPG 3-0 Hebei CFFC
Playing at home certainly do wonders for Shanghai SIPG. Of course, that is not to discredit the quality they showed, but their strong finishing on the pitch speaks volume about their home form. Lu Wenjun and Wu Lei propelled the hosts to a 2-0 lead in less than 30 minutes before Oscar put the game beyond reach with a penalty conversion midway through the second half. Hebei, on the other hand, never threatened as they committed several individual errors.
Tianjin Teda 3-1 Yanbian Funde
Three goals in a stretch of 15 minutes all but ended Yanbian Funde’s afternoon football. After a goalless, albeit action-packed, first half, Tianjin Teda blazed into the second interval with more aggressiveness; and it paid off as Qiu Tianyi, Hu Rentian and Brown Ideye found the back of the net to keep the visitors at the bottom three. Bubacarr Trawally’s 84th-minute penalty was nothing but a mere consolation for the Baekdu Tiger.
Guizhou Zhicheng 0-2 Shanghai Shenhua
No Carlos Tevez? No problem for Shanghai Shenhua! Despite missing their highly-priced new man due to a calf injury, Shenhua secured their second straight victory courtesy of goals from Fredy Guarin and Obafemi Martins. Guarin put the visitors in front with just 14 minutes on the clock before Martins headed home on 37 to double their lead and keep the hosts winless in six.
Changchun Yatai 1-0 Henan Jianye
Changchun Yatai finally got their first win at the expense of another struggling club, Henan Jianye. It was an often dull affair that saw the two sides fail to create clear-cut opportunities, but the hosts did enough to set up Tan Long who launched the winner 19 minutes from time.
Shandong Luneng 1-1 Chongqing Lifan
Chongqing Lifan jumped ahead on 28 minutes after Fernandinho calmly slotted the ball past keeper Wang Dalei following a solo run. However, Shandong Luneng didn’t back down as they kept their aggressiveness throughout until Graziano Pelle levelled matters late to share the honours. The host will be disappointed though with Papiss Cisse unable to impact the match as they dropped to fourth.
