1st ODI: South Africa vs India
After the two best cricket teams in the world fought it out in the test series, South Africa and India now turn their attention to the one-day game…and I can’t wait!
Having won the five-dayers 2-1, the Proteas arrive at Kingsmead in Durban as the sports betting favourites to draw first blood. At betting odds of 1.65 to win, South African skipper Faf du Plessis is under pressure to deliver on home soil. But his opposite number, Virat Kohli, won’t let the odds of 2.29 on India distract his men.
He is fiercely determined to win!
And if anyone doubted that, witnessing the Indian captain smash a ball into a dressing room wall—taking out part of a rose bush—in fury of his dismissal in the third test put that right. His passion transmitted to his team which battled hard to win the final test after losing the first two. So the tourists have a little momentum.
There isn’t much to choose between these two excellent sides. South Africa sit atop the world ODI rankings, but just a single point ahead of India. Du Plessis has the bowling prowess of Kagiso Rabada and Morne Morkel to call on, as well as the best ODI bowler on the planet, Imran Tahir; but they’ll have to be at their best to keep the Indians quiet.
If you’re looking for the big hitters, the hosts are favourites to hit the most sixes at 1.88 while India are at 1.98. Kohli is the world’s best ODI batsman, and he might well slug it out with the legendary AB de Villiers who is second in the ICC rankings.
